I believe we came up with a mix full of feels and magic and I hope listeners and BotW fans will enjoy it!" Wes commented to me that the mix is so cohesive that listeners would not be able to tell who did what. Wes and I work so well together and we often seem to share a brain while working. We both added elements, motifs, and percussions along the way.
I sent Wes a WIP of BotW " Lost Woods" combined with the " Shrine" theme that I had started two years earlier and he loved it enough to begin expanding on it right away. ""Torchlight" marks Wes's and my third collab together, and I believe it is our best so far. I don't think this same exact approach would work as well for other sources, but it really clicks for "Lost Woods" - something about the simplicity & optimism of the straightforward original melody really jives with maximalist, schizophrenic dubstep aggression.Absolutely amazing, mesmerizing Zelda "Lost Woods"/"Shrine" arrangement from Chimpazilla (Kristina Scheps) & Emunator (Wes McDonald), whose third collaboration together manages to exceed the already high expectations set by their first two, with an ambient/cinematic journey into night Kristina writes: A really high energy take with some great effects." Love how you work in the little fanfares and bits from the game. I was a bit iffy on the lead but the rest of the track is really great. No one should throw around an adjective like "awesomesauce" lightly, but I'm gonna have to agree with Kris concept & execution are spot-on, everything clicks, and the result is a super-catchy source/genre combo, served up fresh. Blending in Zelda's lullaby was a nice touch. The arrangement and creativity totally carries it for me. Source use seems fine to me, and stopwatch Larry has done his stopwatch thing here so we're all good with source use.
" OMG are you kidding me with this? This is amazing! I am a lover of dubstep and also of sfx from the game being remixed, and also OoT is my all time favorite game. The arrangement plays into the strengths of the genre perfectly, and the glue (including a cameo of "Zelda's Theme") that holds everything together is everything BUT filler. FX change-ups and mangling 2'01" are delectable indulgent, sure, but with evident skill & musicality. While over five minutes long, time just kinda flies by it's such a pleasant, uplifting melody, and hearing it run through the beat grinder & EDM-ified is rather a blast. I couldn't make a dubstep track without a bit of a filthy drop either!" Hopefully these extending phrases help punctuate the main theme when it takes to the fore. Taking a 30-second loop and extending it out to a full track proved a little tricky and I had to pad out around the main theme with an ambient intro build up, and extra sequences. Newcomer GlacialSpoon (Robert Kemp) makes a strong, memorable debut with a sick, SFX-laden dubstep take on "Lost Woods" aka "Saria's Song" - the theme works realllly well in this context, and I'd go so far as to say that this is one of my favorite VGM arrangements in the genre.
